Abstract

The development of self-compacting Concrete (SCC) was first developed in Japan by Okamura in 1986. SCC has got its prominence as an innovative material in the field of concrete technologies. Many researched were made all over the world regarding the mix proportioning, properties and application of SCC. This Paper includes a review on SCC made with fibers and different mineral admixtures. SCC has got its prominence as an innovative material in the field of concrete technologies. SCC has superior advantages with respect to its workability, structural integrity and workability and that made it the proper selection in the different applications. When the design of concrete members includes heavy reinforcement, it is difficult to ensure good compacting without voids and honeycombs. Thus the development of SCC allows concrete to flow around reinforcement easily and fill the different formwork corners. SCC gets compacted by its own weight without being vibrated but careful consideration is required during the design and production of SCC including the selection of materials such as cementitiuos materials, chemical admixtures and aggregates.
